What's the objective of the book?
Children are active on screens for an increasingly large proportion of their lives. This book aims to activate children, sharpen their senses and show them the fun to be had away from the screen. It starts by suggesting how watching birds can enrich a child’s life, and then describes 10 Non-Screen Ideas to encourage that hobby.
As an educator and music therapist with special needs and typically developing children, I highly recommend itChristina B. Conroy MA, CMT, LCAT
Who is it aimed at?
Any adult who is playing a significant role in a child’s life. Parents obviously spring to mind, but the books would be equally valuable for grandparents; foster parents and step-parents; uncles, aunts and other relatives; nannies and childminders; friends and neighbours; school teachers; church and youth club leaders; and cub, scout and guide leaders. Healthcare professionals are another audience. As being outdoors has benefits for both physical and psychological health, more medical professionals are now prescribing ‘time outdoors’ for children.
Why are the ideas “Non-Screen”?
Children are active on screens for an increasingly large proportion of their lives. These books aim to activate children, sharpen their senses and show them the fun to be had away from the screen. (Yes, I know it’s ironic that non-screen ideas are given in an eBook!). Consequently, none of the ideas involve screen-based activities such as posting on social media, watching TV or searching the internet by themselves.
As both a parent and a pediatrician, I highly recommend it. It contains a wealth of information and how-to tipsCarrie Rubin, USA
